Frank Pepe's Pizzeria Napoletana is a bustling establishment situated along the historic Wooster Street. There was a line in the waiting room nearly out the door just to be seated. Everyone seemed to know the code: line moves clockwise and closest to the restaurant entrance enters when seats free up. The waiting area had antiques, historical relics, and a powerpoint slideshow of pictures. The seating area consisted of the classic booths. I decided to order the famous white clam pie and an original tomato pie. While I waited to enjoy some of the famous pizza, I had the opportunity to try the Foxon Park ginger ale and white birch beer. Both tasted fantastic. The original tomato pie has quality sauce and a great flavor. The crust and base were crispy and featured a good char (which got heavy on some parts of the crust). The fresh parmesan cheese adds a pleasant creaminess to the sauce creating a well-rounded flavor profile. The clam pie is very unique. The clams were fresh and balance well with the oily, garlicky white pizza. This pie also featured the same great crispiness as the original tomato. Overall, I would say this pizzeria is a pilgrimage that needs to be made for any self-respecting pizza lover. New Haven style apizza is tremendous and this spot sets a high bar for others to try and reach for.

Italy's Restaurant & Pizzeria, Phillipsburg, NJ

Date: 6/21/2019 Location: Phillipsburg, NJ Pizza Ordered: Plain, White, and Sicilian Website: https://italysrestaurant.com/#home Italy's is a small local pizza joint that has the appearance of your typical neighborhood pizzeria. Lovely paintings of Italy adorn the walls and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. I was extra hungry, so I went with my usual plain slice and added a white slice and a Sicilian slice. The meal came with complimentary bread that was pleasantly fluffy and had a good mix of herbs and spices on it. The plain had pretty decent sauce and cheese and the charred crust was good, but a bit burnt in some places. The white was very fluffy with a good helping of cheese. The square slice had really great sauce and parmesan and a nice amount of fluff to the base. Overall, I would say Italy's puts out a good average slice of pizza.

Star Tavern, South Orange, NJ

Date: 7/25/2017 Location: South Orange, NJ Pizza Ordered: Plain and Works Website: www.startavern.net/ Star Tavern is a busy bar and pizzeria in South Orange, New Jersey. There is some parking at the actual building and there is a lot next door with additional parking (which you'll need to use if you go around dinner time). The wait staff is very helpful, polite, and works quick! The atmosphere is very cool and somewhat retro but also quite noisy as you'd expect a popular bar to be. There are arcade games, booths, plenty of posters, neon signs, and a bar seating area. The pizza is fantastic. Star Tavern has some of the thinnest crust I've ever experienced on a pizza. The base was super thin and pleasantly crispy. The ingredients were all delicious and I find myself agreeing with Pete Genovese when he calls this the gold--standard of thin crust pizza in NJ. Just remember that because the crust and base is so thin and because the pizza tastes so good, you'll likely ...

Passariello's Pizzeria & Italian Kitchen, Moorestown, NJ

Date: 05/03/2017 Location: Moorestown, NJ Pizza Ordered: Plain and Pasta Website: www.passariellos.com/menu.php Passariello's Pizzeria and Italian Kitchen is a unique little restaurant along a cute mainstreet in the middle of town. The restaurant is set up in a way similar to a food court or a school cafeteria. You can get different meals from different areas and counters inside the restaurant (of course, my main interest was the pizza counter). There is plenty of indoor seating and there is street parking available. The staff was friendly and service was quick. I went with the pasta slice and the usual plain. The plain featured a crispy base with delicious sauce and fresh cheese. It served as a good, staple slice. The pasta slice was delicious and featured a rich vodka sauce, fresh basil, and some extra cheese compared to the plain slice. It held together nicely and the overall quality of the slice was very good. This is definitely the spot to get a solid slice of pizza.
