AMA Pizza e Cucina, Flagtown, NJ

Date: 10/23/2017
Location: Flagtown, NJ
Pizza Ordered: Margherita e Indiavoleta
Website: www.amapizza.com/

AMA Pizza is new to the block and it brings a welcomed change from the New York style pizza we are so used to in this area. AMA's instant popularity is evident whenever you attempt to park near the restaurant or try to get a table. It can get a bit crowded, but it is worth the wait. Service can be a bit slow and it can take some time before you are waited on and served, so bring someone you can have good conversation with. Despite the waits, staff is incredibly kind and the managers are present and would come over to tables to ask if everything is alright.

The menu is full of items created with extremely fresh ingredients. You can see chefs preparing the meals for yourself, as the kitchen is partially open. The oven is beautiful, though limited in capacity, which likely is partially the cause for some of the wait. My girlfriend and I decided to order the margherita and the indiavolata. The margherita featured a rich, delicious sauce and some incredibly fresh cheese. The crust on both pies is pleasantly fluffy and flavorful. The indiavolata's spicy salami is to die for and really adds a level of flavor that your standard pepperoni or sausage could never hope to achieve. For dessert, the nutella pie. I'm not much of a fan of bananas on pizza, but this could change my mind. While I would have enjoyed more nutella, the powdered sugar and fruits really helped make this a pleasant dessert. I would definitely recommend trying AMA out and I hope that their service continues to improve as they get used to their newfound popularity.

Italy's Restaurant & Pizzeria, Phillipsburg, NJ

Date: 6/21/2019 Location: Phillipsburg, NJ Pizza Ordered: Plain, White, and Sicilian Website: https://italysrestaurant.com/#home Italy's is a small local pizza joint that has the appearance of your typical neighborhood pizzeria. Lovely paintings of Italy adorn the walls and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. I was extra hungry, so I went with my usual plain slice and added a white slice and a Sicilian slice. The meal came with complimentary bread that was pleasantly fluffy and had a good mix of herbs and spices on it. The plain had pretty decent sauce and cheese and the charred crust was good, but a bit burnt in some places. The white was very fluffy with a good helping of cheese. The square slice had really great sauce and parmesan and a nice amount of fluff to the base. Overall, I would say Italy's puts out a good average slice of pizza.

Star Tavern, South Orange, NJ

Date: 7/25/2017 Location: South Orange, NJ Pizza Ordered: Plain and Works Website: www.startavern.net/ Star Tavern is a busy bar and pizzeria in South Orange, New Jersey. There is some parking at the actual building and there is a lot next door with additional parking (which you'll need to use if you go around dinner time). The wait staff is very helpful, polite, and works quick! The atmosphere is very cool and somewhat retro but also quite noisy as you'd expect a popular bar to be. There are arcade games, booths, plenty of posters, neon signs, and a bar seating area. The pizza is fantastic. Star Tavern has some of the thinnest crust I've ever experienced on a pizza. The base was super thin and pleasantly crispy. The ingredients were all delicious and I find myself agreeing with Pete Genovese when he calls this the gold--standard of thin crust pizza in NJ. Just remember that because the crust and base is so thin and because the pizza tastes so good, you'll likely ...

Passariello's Pizzeria & Italian Kitchen, Moorestown, NJ

Date: 05/03/2017 Location: Moorestown, NJ Pizza Ordered: Plain and Pasta Website: www.passariellos.com/menu.php Passariello's Pizzeria and Italian Kitchen is a unique little restaurant along a cute mainstreet in the middle of town. The restaurant is set up in a way similar to a food court or a school cafeteria. You can get different meals from different areas and counters inside the restaurant (of course, my main interest was the pizza counter). There is plenty of indoor seating and there is street parking available. The staff was friendly and service was quick. I went with the pasta slice and the usual plain. The plain featured a crispy base with delicious sauce and fresh cheese. It served as a good, staple slice. The pasta slice was delicious and featured a rich vodka sauce, fresh basil, and some extra cheese compared to the plain slice. It held together nicely and the overall quality of the slice was very good. This is definitely the spot to get a solid slice of pizza.
