AMA Pizza e Cucina, Flagtown, NJ

Date: 10/23/2017
Location: Flagtown, NJ
Pizza Ordered: Margherita e Indiavoleta
Website: www.amapizza.com/

AMA Pizza is new to the block and it brings a welcomed change from the New York style pizza we are so used to in this area. AMA's instant popularity is evident whenever you attempt to park near the restaurant or try to get a table. It can get a bit crowded, but it is worth the wait. Service can be a bit slow and it can take some time before you are waited on and served, so bring someone you can have good conversation with. Despite the waits, staff is incredibly kind and the managers are present and would come over to tables to ask if everything is alright.

The menu is full of items created with extremely fresh ingredients. You can see chefs preparing the meals for yourself, as the kitchen is partially open. The oven is beautiful, though limited in capacity, which likely is partially the cause for some of the wait. My girlfriend and I decided to order the margherita and the indiavolata. The margherita featured a rich, delicious sauce and some incredibly fresh cheese. The crust on both pies is pleasantly fluffy and flavorful. The indiavolata's spicy salami is to die for and really adds a level of flavor that your standard pepperoni or sausage could never hope to achieve. For dessert, the nutella pie. I'm not much of a fan of bananas on pizza, but this could change my mind. While I would have enjoyed more nutella, the powdered sugar and fruits really helped make this a pleasant dessert. I would definitely recommend trying AMA out and I hope that their service continues to improve as they get used to their newfound popularity.

Italy's Restaurant & Pizzeria, Phillipsburg, NJ

Date: 6/21/2019 Location: Phillipsburg, NJ Pizza Ordered: Plain, White, and Sicilian Website: https://italysrestaurant.com/#home Italy's is a small local pizza joint that has the appearance of your typical neighborhood pizzeria. Lovely paintings of Italy adorn the walls and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. I was extra hungry, so I went with my usual plain slice and added a white slice and a Sicilian slice. The meal came with complimentary bread that was pleasantly fluffy and had a good mix of herbs and spices on it. The plain had pretty decent sauce and cheese and the charred crust was good, but a bit burnt in some places. The white was very fluffy with a good helping of cheese. The square slice had really great sauce and parmesan and a nice amount of fluff to the base. Overall, I would say Italy's puts out a good average slice of pizza.

Luca's Ristorante, Somerset, NJ

Date: 8/25/2019 Location: Somerset, NJ Pizza Ordered: Janara (Tomato sauce / basil / mozzarella) Website: https://www.lucasristorante.com Luca's Ristorante is a hidden gem passageway directly to the Gulf of Naples.  The interior of the restaurant is absolutely stunning, with beautifully painted murals adorning the wall, gorgeous hanging lights over the tables and lovely pottery all over the place. The staff is so friendly and goes out of their way to make the dining experience a positive one.  I also want to say that I love their NJ focused wine list. It's so uplifting to see restaurants supporting local wineries and the Pino Grigio from Hopewell Valley was lovely.  The pizza is OUT OF THIS WORLD. I decided to order the Janara, which is similar to a basic Margherita pizza. When it arrived at the table, it smelled amazing and fresh and I couldn't wait to dive in. The tomato sauce has a rich sweetness that balances out the pie very nicely. The cheese is milky and fre

Panatieri's, Hillsborough, NJ

Date: 9/26/2016 Location: Hillsborough, NJ Pizza Ordered: Margherita and Plain Website: www.panatierispizza.com/ Panatieri's is a New Jersey Chain of pizzerias that originated in Bound Brook. The owner, Chris Panatieri still owns and operates the original location. There are nine total locations throughout New Jersey, but this review is for the Hillsborough location. The pizzeria itself replaced another Hillsborough Pizzeria called "Portabello's" which, from what I remember, served a decent plain slice. The setup is similar, with a large counter that displays many of the options available and ample indoor seating. Parking is also quite simple, as the lot is shared with a nearby Kohls, so there are plenty of spots. While I initially missed the disappearance of Portabello's, after trying Panatieri's I have nearly forgotten why I enjoyed Portabello's in the first place. Panatieri's pizza is very good with a thin and crispy bottom and delicious bread
