Pizza Ordered: Plain Pie and the Rock '55
Website: www.chimneyrockinn.com/

The Chimney Rock Inn is always an experience. The rustic atmosphere and delicious food make any night complete. My girlfriend took me here for my 22nd birthday and I couldn't have been happier. The wait wasn't too bad, even for a Friday night. The waitress was very polite and service was quick. The menus are a newspaper style that really adds to the overall feel of the place. The loaded tater-tots appetizer was fantastic. It was like you combined loaded nachos with golden brown tater-tots....why hasn't anyone thought of this before?! I went with the classic Rock '55 pie for my main course and my girlfriend decided to get the standard plain. My pizza was perfectly crispy with a thin crust and rich marinara sauce. The cheese was very fresh, as was the basil littered on top. The combination of flavors was brought full circle with the smokey taste coming from the base and crust. The sauce definitely helped make the pie and reminded me of homemade marinara. I managed to trade my girlfriend a slice in order to try the plain and that too was high quality. They use the perfect amount of sauce and cheese to form a really great, standard pie. For dessert, I went with the lava cookie, but I seriously need to try everything on their dessert menu; it all sounded so good. The lava cookie tasted so fresh with rich, creamy vanilla ice cream and hot molten chocolate. Definitely, a match made in heaven. Overall, I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone, especially the pizza lover.

Italy's Restaurant & Pizzeria, Phillipsburg, NJ

Date: 6/21/2019 Location: Phillipsburg, NJ Pizza Ordered: Plain, White, and Sicilian Website: https://italysrestaurant.com/#home Italy's is a small local pizza joint that has the appearance of your typical neighborhood pizzeria. Lovely paintings of Italy adorn the walls and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. I was extra hungry, so I went with my usual plain slice and added a white slice and a Sicilian slice. The meal came with complimentary bread that was pleasantly fluffy and had a good mix of herbs and spices on it. The plain had pretty decent sauce and cheese and the charred crust was good, but a bit burnt in some places. The white was very fluffy with a good helping of cheese. The square slice had really great sauce and parmesan and a nice amount of fluff to the base. Overall, I would say Italy's puts out a good average slice of pizza.

Star Tavern, South Orange, NJ

Date: 7/25/2017 Location: South Orange, NJ Pizza Ordered: Plain and Works Website: www.startavern.net/ Star Tavern is a busy bar and pizzeria in South Orange, New Jersey. There is some parking at the actual building and there is a lot next door with additional parking (which you'll need to use if you go around dinner time). The wait staff is very helpful, polite, and works quick! The atmosphere is very cool and somewhat retro but also quite noisy as you'd expect a popular bar to be. There are arcade games, booths, plenty of posters, neon signs, and a bar seating area. The pizza is fantastic. Star Tavern has some of the thinnest crust I've ever experienced on a pizza. The base was super thin and pleasantly crispy. The ingredients were all delicious and I find myself agreeing with Pete Genovese when he calls this the gold--standard of thin crust pizza in NJ. Just remember that because the crust and base is so thin and because the pizza tastes so good, you'll likely ...

La Strada Cafe, Neshanic Station, NJ

Date: 4/13/2018 Location: Neshanic Station, NJ Slices ordered: Plain and Sicilian Website: www.lastradacafes.com/ La Strada Cafe is a small Italian restaurant in the heart of Neshanic Station. It has a cozy interior that feels like you're at home sharing a family dinner. La Strada also has outdoor seating as an option. The decorations and pictures that adorn the walls and shelves add some character to this endearing restaurant. There weren't many options to go with at the counter, so I tried the Sicilian and the plain slices. The pizza was basic and just average. The crust and base were pleasantly thin on the plain slice. They were toasted to a nice crunch. The cheese was decent, but both slices were lacking in the sauce department. The Sicilian only had a thin layering of sauce and the cheese didn't reach the right level of melt in the oven. The atmosphere had everything there, but unfortunately, the pizza just didn't stand out.
