Pasquale Brick Oven Pizza, Milltown, NJ

Date: 06/16/2016
Location: Milltown, NJ
Slices Ordered: Margherita & Grandma
Website: www.pasqualebrickoven.com/

The Grandma slice, pictured on the left had a delicious thin crust. The crust was a combination of crispy and dense. The sauce was extremely fresh tasting. Excess olive oil really compliments the crust of the grandma slice. The cheese was on the crispier side and did not slather off the slice when bites were taken. It stayed neat and well-attached to the slice.

The Margarita slice pictured on the right had a delicious thin crust with a crispy, but not overcooked, bottom. The mozzarella tasted very fresh and stretched to a good length when bites were taken. The basil leaves coated in the olive oil add a nice flavor profile to the slice. The excess oil makes your fingers greasy, but the taste is not overpowering .

Overall, the Grandma slice is my favorite I have tried from this pizzeria. The sauce that the pizzeria uses really sets this pizzeria apart from others. It's so fresh and filled with herbs and spices. The wood ovens that the pizzeria uses are authentic and you can see a large pile of split wood in back of the pizzeria when you drive behind it. The atmosphere is very pleasant and the employees are polite and friendly. The eating area is broken into two sections. One section, the area next to the main door, has two large televisions, the drink refrigerators, and the soda fountain. A quieter area off to the side of the counter allows for a more comfortable group setting and is cozy and excluded from the high-traffic area of the door and TV noise. The parking lot is small and can be challenging to make a left out of, due to the traffic on Ryder Lane. This pizzeria makes a good spot to watch the soccer game while enjoying a slice or a cozy location for a date.

Italy's Restaurant & Pizzeria, Phillipsburg, NJ

Date: 6/21/2019 Location: Phillipsburg, NJ Pizza Ordered: Plain, White, and Sicilian Website: https://italysrestaurant.com/#home Italy's is a small local pizza joint that has the appearance of your typical neighborhood pizzeria. Lovely paintings of Italy adorn the walls and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. I was extra hungry, so I went with my usual plain slice and added a white slice and a Sicilian slice. The meal came with complimentary bread that was pleasantly fluffy and had a good mix of herbs and spices on it. The plain had pretty decent sauce and cheese and the charred crust was good, but a bit burnt in some places. The white was very fluffy with a good helping of cheese. The square slice had really great sauce and parmesan and a nice amount of fluff to the base. Overall, I would say Italy's puts out a good average slice of pizza.

Star Tavern, South Orange, NJ

Date: 7/25/2017 Location: South Orange, NJ Pizza Ordered: Plain and Works Website: www.startavern.net/ Star Tavern is a busy bar and pizzeria in South Orange, New Jersey. There is some parking at the actual building and there is a lot next door with additional parking (which you'll need to use if you go around dinner time). The wait staff is very helpful, polite, and works quick! The atmosphere is very cool and somewhat retro but also quite noisy as you'd expect a popular bar to be. There are arcade games, booths, plenty of posters, neon signs, and a bar seating area. The pizza is fantastic. Star Tavern has some of the thinnest crust I've ever experienced on a pizza. The base was super thin and pleasantly crispy. The ingredients were all delicious and I find myself agreeing with Pete Genovese when he calls this the gold--standard of thin crust pizza in NJ. Just remember that because the crust and base is so thin and because the pizza tastes so good, you'll likely ...

Passariello's Pizzeria & Italian Kitchen, Moorestown, NJ

Date: 05/03/2017 Location: Moorestown, NJ Pizza Ordered: Plain and Pasta Website: www.passariellos.com/menu.php Passariello's Pizzeria and Italian Kitchen is a unique little restaurant along a cute mainstreet in the middle of town. The restaurant is set up in a way similar to a food court or a school cafeteria. You can get different meals from different areas and counters inside the restaurant (of course, my main interest was the pizza counter). There is plenty of indoor seating and there is street parking available. The staff was friendly and service was quick. I went with the pasta slice and the usual plain. The plain featured a crispy base with delicious sauce and fresh cheese. It served as a good, staple slice. The pasta slice was delicious and featured a rich vodka sauce, fresh basil, and some extra cheese compared to the plain slice. It held together nicely and the overall quality of the slice was very good. This is definitely the spot to get a solid slice of pizza.
