As part of my quest to review all of the New Brunswick pizzeria's that service the Rutgers off-campus student population, I decided to stop in a La Familia for lunch. The first thing I appreciated was the "lunch special" where you buy two slices and get a free water or can of soda. Since two slices are my usual, this deal is much appreciated. The staff was friendly and polite and the atmosphere is very casual. Parking isn't very plentiful here, but also not very necessary when the targetted demographic is primarily off-campus college students in walking distance.

I went with the standard plain slice and the buffalo chicken slice as there weren't many options available. A little surprising, considering it was lunch time, but it didn't bother me. The plain slice was just that, pretty plain in taste and didn't stand out especially. It did have a pleasantly crunchy base, however, which I did appreciate if only the flavor was there too. The buffalo chicken slice, though it looked as if it had been reheated from the night before, was actually quite good compared to others I've sampled in the New Brunswick area. The chicken was flavorful and the buffalo sauce was a pleasant mix of spicy and tangy. While I'm not a die-hard buffalo chicken fan like many of the college students are, I would happily have another slice from this establishment.

Italy's Restaurant & Pizzeria, Phillipsburg, NJ

Lovely paintings of Italy adorn the walls and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. I was extra hungry, so I went with my usual plain slice and added a white slice and a Sicilian slice. The meal came with complimentary bread that was pleasantly fluffy and had a good mix of herbs and spices on it. The plain had pretty decent sauce and cheese and the charred crust was good, but a bit burnt in some places. The white was very fluffy with a good helping of cheese. The square slice had really great sauce and parmesan and a nice amount of fluff to the base. Overall, I would say Italy's puts out a good average slice of pizza.

Luca's Ristorante, Somerset, NJ

Date: 8/25/2019 Location: Somerset, NJ Pizza Ordered: Janara (Tomato sauce / basil / mozzarella) Website: https://www.lucasristorante.com Luca's Ristorante is a hidden gem passageway directly to the Gulf of Naples. The interior of the restaurant is absolutely stunning, with beautifully painted murals adorning the wall, gorgeous hanging lights over the tables and lovely pottery all over the place. The staff is so friendly and goes out of their way to make the dining experience a positive one. I also want to say that I love their NJ focused wine list. It's so uplifting to see restaurants supporting local wineries and the Pino Grigio from Hopewell Valley was lovely. The pizza is OUT OF THIS WORLD. I decided to order the Janara, which is similar to a basic Margherita pizza. When it arrived at the table, it smelled amazing and fresh and I couldn't wait to dive in. Panatieri's, Hillsborough, NJ

Date: 9/26/2016 Location: Hillsborough, NJ Pizza Ordered: Margherita and Plain Website: www.panatierispizza.com/ Panatieri's is a New Jersey Chain of pizzerias that originated in Bound Brook. The owner, Chris Panatieri still owns and operates the original location. There are nine total locations throughout New Jersey, but this review is for the Hillsborough location. The pizzeria itself replaced another Hillsborough Pizzeria called "Portabello's" which, from what I remember, served a decent plain slice. The setup is similar, with a large counter that displays many of the options available and ample indoor seating. Parking is also quite simple, as the lot is shared with a nearby Kohls, so there are plenty of spots. While I initially missed the disappearance of Portabello's, after trying Panatieri's I have nearly forgotten why I enjoyed Portabello's in the first place.
