Bertucci's, North Brunswick, NJ

Date: 08/13/2016
Location: North Brunswick, NJ
Pizza Ordered: "The Bertucci" Personal Pepperoni Pie
Website: www.bertuccis.com/

Bertucci's is an Italian restaurant chain that spans the northeast coast of the United States from Virginia to Massachusetts. The restaurant doesn't solely focus on pizza, though there are several pizza options. One of the things I appreciate most about the Bertucci's Restaurant Chain is their use of multi-grain dough. Not many pizzerias offer this healthy option, and if it is offered, many pizzerias multi-grain dough tastes awful. Not Bertucci's. This pizzeria has phenomenal multi-grain pizzas and if you are into a healthier pizza, check it out!

The location my girlfriend and I visited was located along a major highway (Route 1). There was ample parking and there is a large movie theater within 200 yards of the restaurant, making this a good spot to go out to eat after a movie. The interior was warm and comfortable. Staff was polite, helpful, and friendly, though our waitress did have to call a manager over to verify our ID's to purchase drinks -I guess we look too young. There's ample seating in the restaurant as well as bar seating. The kitchen is open so you can see the ovens and the chefs at work.

The food was delicious. We started with garlic knots and mozzarella sticks as appetizers and both were good, but the garlic knots really stood out. They were a nice bite-size and very flavorful. The pizza I ordered, "The Bertucci," is basically a pepperoni pizza. I ordered it on the multi-grain dough because I'm obviously trying to watch my figure. The pizza was really good. The sauce was flavorful and a tad spicy and the cheese was fresh. The crust was a little dry, mostly because of the multigrain dough, but it wasn't as bad as other multigrain pizzas I've eaten. Bertucci's does have a bad habit of putting too much cornmeal on the bottom of the pizza when it cooks, but this time it wasn't so bad. This pizza, even with multi-grain dough, has more flavor than other pizzeria's I've tried and overall, it was very good.

Other items my girlfriend and I enjoyed off the menu were the Blackberry Margarita and the Brick Oven Baked Chocolate Chip Cookie. The Blackberry Margarita was fantastic. It was deliciously sweet and definitely a good ratio of alcohol to mixer. Would happily drink again. The cookie is our favorite dessert. It comes out piping-hot and the ice cream has already started melting by the time the dessert reaches the table. Getting a spoonful of ice cream and cookie is perhaps the most satisfying part of the dessert. The cookie is rich, chocolatey goodness and the ice cream is cool, vanilla creaminess. It's hard to put into words how delicious this dessert is.

Italy's Restaurant & Pizzeria, Phillipsburg, NJ

Date: 6/21/2019 Location: Phillipsburg, NJ Pizza Ordered: Plain, White, and Sicilian Website: https://italysrestaurant.com/#home Italy's is a small local pizza joint that has the appearance of your typical neighborhood pizzeria. Lovely paintings of Italy adorn the walls and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. I was extra hungry, so I went with my usual plain slice and added a white slice and a Sicilian slice. The meal came with complimentary bread that was pleasantly fluffy and had a good mix of herbs and spices on it. The plain had pretty decent sauce and cheese and the charred crust was good, but a bit burnt in some places. The white was very fluffy with a good helping of cheese. The square slice had really great sauce and parmesan and a nice amount of fluff to the base. Overall, I would say Italy's puts out a good average slice of pizza.

Luca's Ristorante, Somerset, NJ

Date: 8/25/2019 Location: Somerset, NJ Pizza Ordered: Janara (Tomato sauce / basil / mozzarella) Website: https://www.lucasristorante.com Luca's Ristorante is a hidden gem passageway directly to the Gulf of Naples.  The interior of the restaurant is absolutely stunning, with beautifully painted murals adorning the wall, gorgeous hanging lights over the tables and lovely pottery all over the place. The staff is so friendly and goes out of their way to make the dining experience a positive one.  I also want to say that I love their NJ focused wine list. It's so uplifting to see restaurants supporting local wineries and the Pino Grigio from Hopewell Valley was lovely.  The pizza is OUT OF THIS WORLD. I decided to order the Janara, which is similar to a basic Margherita pizza. When it arrived at the table, it smelled amazing and fresh and I couldn't wait to dive in. The tomato sauce has a rich sweetness that balances out the pie very nicely. The cheese is milky and fre

Panatieri's, Hillsborough, NJ

Date: 9/26/2016 Location: Hillsborough, NJ Pizza Ordered: Margherita and Plain Website: www.panatierispizza.com/ Panatieri's is a New Jersey Chain of pizzerias that originated in Bound Brook. The owner, Chris Panatieri still owns and operates the original location. There are nine total locations throughout New Jersey, but this review is for the Hillsborough location. The pizzeria itself replaced another Hillsborough Pizzeria called "Portabello's" which, from what I remember, served a decent plain slice. The setup is similar, with a large counter that displays many of the options available and ample indoor seating. Parking is also quite simple, as the lot is shared with a nearby Kohls, so there are plenty of spots. While I initially missed the disappearance of Portabello's, after trying Panatieri's I have nearly forgotten why I enjoyed Portabello's in the first place. Panatieri's pizza is very good with a thin and crispy bottom and delicious bread
